Riga, Greater Riga and Kurzeme are being considered the most suitable places of residence for the families with children

Riga, October 6, 2014 - Residents of Latvia representing the economically active age group consider that the capital Riga is the most suitable place of residence (22%) for the families with children, as well as regions of the Greater Riga (21%) and Kurzeme (22%), shows the research conducted by the real estate company Ektornet and the research company TNS.

Survey shows the tendency of majority of respondents considering with certainty that just their place of residence is the most suitable one for the families with children – 60% of the surveyed residents of Riga and 73% of the Greater Riga are in favor of such opinion. However, the residents of Kurzeme must be especially highlighted as being the most convinced of their region – namely, 90% of them consider Kurzeme the most family-friendly.

“Experience of Ektornet shows that developed infrastructure is a significant criterion for family with children upon selection of the place of residence. Nearly three quarters of the respondents (71%) consider that Riga and the rest of the cities and towns of Latvia are more suitable as places of residence for the families than the rural territories. Riga is followed by Ventspils as the second (22%) friendliest city for family with children – such opinion is agreed by nearly one tenth of the respondents, mostly – by the residents of Kurzeme (20%),” commented Mr. Andris Kovaļčuks, Chairman of the Board of “Ektornet”.

“Latgale would be selected as place of residence comparatively more frequently by non-Latvian speaking families, while Latvian speaking people comparatively more frequently would prefer home with children in Kurzeme and Vidzeme,” pointed out Mr. Intars Āboms, Client manager of the survey company TNS.

Opinions of the residents significantly differ depending on their native language. Nearly a half (42%) of non-Latvian speaking residents of Latvia would choose the capital as a place suitable for residing together with family, while just 10% of Latvians would make such a choice. Comparatively more frequently than on average (39%) Latvian speaking respondents would select a place of residence in the country for family with children.
